Computed Tomography Medical Radiologic Technology Enhanced Skills Certificate (CTMT)

Description

Computed tomography (CT) (computerized axial tomography (CAT) is a radiologic imaging modality that uses ionizing radiation and computer processing to generate an image/s of tissue/organ density as thin as 1-10 mm in thickness throughout the patient's body.

Applicants must be graduates of a 2 year accredited radiology program in ionizing radiation and possess a current ARRT certificate in Radiography, Radiation Therapy or Nuclear Medicine and or CNMT from the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board. Admission to the college does not guarantee admission to the program and enrollment is limited. In order to meet requirements of clinical agencies, health insurance, and criminal background checks etc., applicants will need to fill out a radiology application form. Mission Statement

The Radiologic Technology Computed Tomography Program functions in accordance with the mission statement of Laredo College. The Computed Tomography Program strives to provide an educational experience that will produce competent entry-level CT technologists capable of addressing the needs of the constantly changing and challenging health care environment.

Program Goals

1. Upon completion of the Computed Tomography program, the graduate will demonstrate the following entry level skills in Computed Tomography:
   1. Clinical competency
   2. Radiation safety
   3. Communication skills
   4. Critical thinking skills
   5. Professional growth and development
   6. Equipment operation and manipulation
2. 85% of the program graduates will pass the ARRT Computed Tomography credentialing exam on the first attempt.
3. 85% of students will complete the program.
4. 85% of the graduates seeking employment in CT will be employed within six months.

Program Application information/ required documents:

1. Prior to first day of class, the students who have met all of the program acceptance requirements and have been selected to the CT program must show documentation of a negative (NO) criminal background check. Background check can be accessed from www.castlebranch.com. A criminal conviction while in the program must be disclosed to the Program Director immediately and the student may not be able to attend clinical training.
2. Proof of updated required immunizations: a. Bacterial Meningitis b. Influenza vaccine (annually) c. TB skin test (annually) or chest X-ray at providers' discretion.
3. One dose of measles, mumps rubella (MMR). Students born on or after January 1, 1957, must show acceptable evidence of vaccination of two doses of measles- containing vaccine administered since January 1, 1968.
4. One dose of Tetanus-Diphtheria Toxoid (TD) every 10 years
5. Complete series of Hepatitis B (HBV) or serologic confirmation of immunity to the Hepatitis B virus is acceptable. Note: The Hepatitis B immunization is a three to six month series, so you must begin the process by January. For example, students who anticipate applying to the Radiologic Technology program to commence on the fall semester, must have their first hepatitis B injection no later than February 1st, the second injection no later than March 1st, and the third injection prior to the first day of class. Students who have not completed the hepatitis B series by the first class day will no longer be admitted into the program. Recommended: Hepatitis A. Please contact the Program Office if you have any questions regarding this required immunization series.
6. Two doses of varicella (chickenpox). Also acceptable: • Student received first dose prior to 13 years of age • Laboratory report indicating varicella immunity, or • Parent/physician validated history of varicella disease (chickenpox)
7. Current American Heart Association CPR Health Care Provider Certification
8. Physical Examination
9. Negative drug screen (10) panel. Once accepted into the program, the student will be required to complete a drug screening prior to the first day of class.
10. Proof of liability insurance. Fees are paid at registration annually. Failure to submit documentation as deemed necessary, the clinical site(s) may refuse placement to a student who does not provide the requested records. (pending board approval)
