Credits Accepted in Transfer

College courses on official transcripts from other colleges and universities with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) common number are generally accepted. Courses without the THECB common number are evaluated by reviewing catalog descriptions and, in some cases, course syllabi. In assessing and documenting transfer credit from other colleges and universities, the Office of the Registrar and Admissions uses the AACRAO (American Association of Collegiate Registrar’s and Admissions Officers) guides.

Military service educational programs are evaluated using the Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Armed Forces and College Credits for Heroes recommendations and contents of course.

Students who attended a college or university outside of the United States and are requesting LC credit for such courses should verify that said college or university has proper U.S. regional accreditation. The student must present his/her foreign transcripts (translated to English) to the LC Office of the Registrar and Admissions. The Office of Registrar and Admissions will determine if the foreign college or university has proper regional accreditation.

If the institution is determined to be compliant, the student will be required to have the foreign transcript evaluated by The National Association of  Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). A list of NACES agencies can be found at NACES.ORG.  The Office of the Registrar & Admissions will provide the student with a list of approved agencies. Transcripts must be evaluated and translated on a course-by-course basis.

To receive credit, the student must make a petition to the department chair/instructor.  The department chair of the specific area must determine if the student meets the requirements for such credit prior to granting it. Once the foreign transcript has been evaluated, LC will consider accepting credit for any of its certificates or associate’s degrees (science, arts, and applied science). Most credits accepted will be used as electives. If course descriptions are supplied and content is clear, the credit may be used to meet other requirements.

All decisions made by the Office of the Registrar and Admissions are final. All transcripts submitted for evaluation must be submitted on a timely basis.
