Library Services
Information Resources
The Laredo College Libraries provide print and digital access of resources in a physical or virtual environment to assist students, staff, faculty, administration and community users in locating information and resources. The libraries are service-oriented institutions, providing high quality access services to answer questions. Librarians offer specialized research assistance including bibliographic instruction and develop the library collection. The libraries also participate in TexShare, a statewide library resource-sharing program. A collection of faculty reserve materials is available to students at the circulation desk, and a special collections room houses rare books of local, regional and state interest. Interlibrary loan service is provided free of charge to all students, faculty and staff. The Laredo College Libraries are open on evenings and weekends to promote studying and research for faculty and students. The collection’s main focus is to support the curriculum of Laredo College. Combined both libraries approximately house and share over 100,000 volumes both in print and electronic format including ebooks, periodical subscriptions and online databases (which include full-text journal articles).
Library Space
The Harold R. Yeary Library provides ample seating for our students in the open learning commons area. In addition to the periodical reading area, the library offers study rooms to accommodate different group sizes for collaboration and learning. Microfilm reader-printers and photocopiers are also available for use. The library is equipped with a computer lab and a bibliographic instructional lab. The Senator Judith Zaffirini Library has an open learning commons area. It is equipped with photocopiers, study rooms, computers for student use and a bibliographic instructional lab. Both libraries house computers offering free access to the internet and to various software programs for currently enrolled students, faculty and staff. Online and internet services are readily available throughout the buildings.
Library Systems
The Laredo College Libraries are equipped with and utilize a comprehensive integrated library system called Symphony, which is a product of SirsiDynix. This system offers enhanced access and research capabilities to our students, faculty, staff, and community users. LC Libraries use EBSCO Discovery Services (EDS), an all-inclusive search solution making in-depth research easy. It allows users to retrieve information effectively. The online book catalog can be accessed on or off campus for currently enrolled students, faculty and staff. The access to the library catalog is found at the following website address https://library.laredo.edu/.
