International Students

Laredo College defines an international student as a candidate who is not a citizen of the United States, permanent resident, refugee, or asylee, or when having studies from a country where English is not the native language.  

For admissions to Laredo College, all students must follow the guidelines established under each student’s classification indicated previously (see First Time Student, Transfer/Transient Student, or Returning Student admissions guidelines).

In addition to the admission guidelines, all international students must submit the following:

  • Submit proof of English Proficiency
    • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a score of a 61.

Note:  Students may be exempt from testing the TOEFL examination by meeting one of the following criteria:

  • SAT Evidence-Based score of 520 or
  • ACT English score of 20 or
  • One-year of academic studies at an accredited U.S. college or university with passing grades or
  • Completion of a high school education or equivalent or
  • TSI College Level Readiness in ELAR or
  • When English is the official spoken language of the applicant’s country
  • Submit financial documents: SEVIS federal regulations require students to demonstrate proof of financial independence. Financial documents include:
    • Bank Statement
    • Financial Statement Form

After completion of the admission requirements and supporting International Student documents, Laredo College will issue an I-20. Additionally, students are required to obtain medical insurance.
