Dual Enrollment Program
Laredo College has partnered with local school districts and independent schools to provide eligible high school students with the opportunity to earn college credits before high school graduation. Courses offered for dual enrollment program are offered as dual credit and must be identified by LC as college level academic courses and will merge Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) with college level competencies.
In order to meet eligibility, students must satisfy the minimum standards under the provisions of the Texas Success Initiative or through waivers and exemptions allowed by the state. In addition, the student must meet all the college’s regular prerequisite requirements designated for the dual enrollment course and maintain good college standing to remain eligible to enroll.
- Students may be exempt from further TSI testing by scoring at or above the scores stated in the table below. Scores from different instruments (not expired) may be used to obtain exemption status. Effective SSI 2005, students can receive partial exemption when they achieve the composite score or total score along with the minimal subject score in that area. ACT and SAT can be used for exemptions within five years from the date of testing and STAAR has a three-year limitation.
- Students who are not TSI exempt based on the above-mentioned tests and scores, must take the TSI Assessment unless enrolling in a Level 1 Certificate Program.
- Students must remain in good standing at their high school and at LC while enrolled at both institutions. Students not in good standing will not be allowed to register for subsequent semesters while still early enrolled. Earned college grades of "F" and/or a GPA below a 2.0 will indicate that the student is not in good standing at LC. If students are below a 2.0 GPA, and if approved by their principal and counselor to proceed with dual credit courses, each student must submit a Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeal Application (SAP) along with their statement, where an LC committee will meet to decide to approve or deny appeal.
- Early enrolled student must fill out and submit an Early Enrollment Form to the Dual Enrollment office each time a student enrolls for the Fall, Spring, Summer Session I and Summer Session II. Completed dual enrollment forms and documentation will be collected by high school representatives and turned in to the Dual Enrollment office.
- Early enrolled students must turn in an Early Enrollment form and a sealed official academic high school transcript for the semester enrolled to the Office of the Registrar and Admissions.
- Upon graduation from high school or during their senior year, Dual/Early Enrolled students must reapply for admission to Laredo College as high school graduates.
