Library Services
Information Resources
The Laredo College Libraries provides print and digital access of resources in a physical or virtual environment to assist students, staff, faculty, administration and community users in locating information and resources. The libraries are service-oriented institutions, providing high quality access services to answer questions. Librarians offer specialized research assistance including bibliographic instruction and develop the library collection. The libraries also participate in TexShare, a statewide library resource-sharing program. A collection of faculty reserve materials is available to students at the circulation desk, and a special collections room houses rare books of local, regional and state interest. Interlibrary loan service is provided free of charge to all students, faculty and staff. The Laredo College Libraries are open on evenings and weekends to promote studying and research for faculty and students. The collection’s main focus is to support the curriculum of Laredo College. Combined both libraries approximately house and share over 100,000 volumes, including about 1,000 eBooks, and receives 300 periodical subscriptions and approximately 80 online databases (which includes full-text journal articles).
Library Space
The Harold R. Yeary library provides seating for more than 300 students. In addition to the central study section and the periodicals reading area, the library provides 16 group study rooms and library tables. Microfilm reader-printers and paper photocopiers are also available for use. The computer lab is equipped with 32 computers with an additional 24 computers near the circulation desk.
The Senator Judith Zaffirini Library has an open learning commons area. It is equipped with photocopiers, study rooms and a computer lab in room BG17 equipped with 32 computers for student use.
Both libraries house computers offering free access to the internet and to various software programs for currently enrolled students, faculty and staff. Online and internet services are readily available throughout the buildings.
Library Systems
The Laredo College Libraries are equipped with and utilize a comprehensive integrated library system called Symphony, which is a product of SirsiDynix. This system offers enhanced access and research capabilities to our students, faculty, staff, and community users. Recently new to the LC Libraries is the EBSCO Discovery Services, it is an all-inclusive search solution making in depth research easy. It helps users retrieve exactly what they are looking for quickly and easily. The online book catalog can be accessed on or off campus for currently enrolled students, faculty and staff.
