MATH 0456 Foundations of Mathematical Reasoning

Topics in mathematics such as study of numeracy and the real number system; algebraic concepts, notation, and reasoning; quantitative relationships; mathematical models; and problem solving. 

Additional Information: This course is intended for Liberal Arts Majors and surveys a variety of mathematical topics needed to prepare students for college level statistics or quantitative reasoning courses. Topics include: numeracy with an emphasis on estimation and fluency with large numbers; evaluating expressions and formulas; rates, ratios, and proportions; percentages; solving equations; linear models; data interpretations including graphs and tables; verbal, algebraic and graphical representations of functions; exponential models. Liberal Arts Majors include: Criminal Justice, Psychology, Political Science, Sociology, Spanish, Music, English, History, and Kinesiology among others. Students should visit with an academic advisor to verify if this course is applicable towards their degree and transfer university.
