Computer Aided Drafting and Design Technology (DFTG, SRVY, ARCE, GISC)
The Computer Technology Department’s Computer Aided Drafting & Design Technology program offers an Associate in Applied Science degree as well as a Level I certificate, a Level II certificate, and five separate Occupational Skills awards.
The degree prepares students to utilize computer graphics equipment and hand drafting tools to produce drawings and solve problems in mechanical, electronic, structural, civil, piping, and architectural drafting; learn principles of computer-aided drafting on various types of industry-quality graphics systems and basic principles of design as applied to printed circuit board production, electronic design, structural steel construction, architectural, civil engineering, geographical information systems use of drone technology, and other areas. The Computer Aided Drafting and Design Technology program includes courses utilizing CAD software such as AutoCAD, AutoCAD Architecture, Land Development Desktop, Civil-3D, Revit, Inventor, Solid Works, and ESRI.
The structure of the curriculum is designed to provide exit points for students desiring immediate entry into the workforce. The CAD Draftsman Level I certificate consists of 24 hours, the CAD Draftsman Level II certificate consists of 45 hours. The Occupational Skills awards range between 9 and 12 hours in various concentrated fields of study. All these awards can be earned while completing the Associate degree.
The department’s A.A.S. award is applicable towards a baccalaureate degree. The department has articulation agreements with Texas A&M University at San Antonio, and with South Texas College. Please consult with the Computer Technology Department for more details.
