Computer Information Systems (BCIS, COSC, ITCC, ITNW, ITSC, ITSE, ITSW, ITSY)

The Computer Information Systems (CIS) program offers a Networking Technologies Associate in Applied Science degree (A.A.S.) with  specializations in Cisco Red Hat Linux Administration and Cloud Computing.  The program  is a member of the CISCO, Red Hat Linux, CompTIA, Microsoft, and AWS Academies. Academy membership permit the program to include industry curriculum that align with certifications. The program graduates exit the college with a technology degree and industry certification preparation that make them more marketable and workforce ready. Certification testing is mandatory in the program.  The CIS program also offers two skills-based certificates and an Occupational Skills award. Laredo College, along with the Computer Technology Department have been designated as a "National Center of Academic Excellence and Cyber Defense Education." This is a  prestigious designation awarded by the National Security Agency (NSA) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that recognizes institutions for exemplary cyber defense instructional programs and practices. 

Courses are practical in nature.  Lectures are supplemented by dedicated labs where emphasis is placed on the progressive attainment of operating and technical administrative skills in a hands-on environment. In state-of-the-art computer labs, students enjoy the experiences of modern technology, including more than two hundred network-based workstations and various specialized software environments.

Computer Science and Computer Information Systems are complex fields offering many career opportunities.  Students considering a career in computer technology or who may have a university transfer objective are encouraged to consult with advisors from the Computer Technology Department to ensure a well-planned curriculum strategy and seamless transfer of coursework to university institutions.
